Why oversized is the new It size

InDigital

Gone are the days when 'flattering' was synonymous with body hugging, tummy tucking, take-a-deep-breath-before-putting-on pieces of clothing. Just take a look at any street style blog or runway—and it's evident that the size on everyone's lips isn't size zero, but oversized.

Who's wearing it

Fashion editors in boyfriend jeans, pop stars such as Rihanna in cocoon coats and designers from the Olsen twins to Ragini Ahuja are all paying obeisance to the anti-fit.

How to wear it

The secret to working this trend is playing the balancing act with proportions. Think slouchy sweaters with skinny jeans or shorts, a look long perfected by one Isabel Marant, or this season's breakout pants: the wide-legged culottes, with a crop top.

For the adventurous dressers, a free-flowing blouse over an A-line skirt (as seen at The Row) is one way to embrace the trend from head to toe. Keep the colour palette neutral to prevent the look from overwhelming your frame.

You may have spent an hour perfecting that déshabillé oversized-sweatshirt-half-tucked-into-ripped-jeans look, but when you saunter into any room, cool nonchalance is all they'll see.
