A green juice guide for beginners

What's the fuss about green juice? And why is everyone (including Jacqueline Fernandez) suddenly posting pictures of their green juicy creations against artsy backdrops on social media? Vogue finds out.

Why should I drink green juices?

Green leafy vegetables are loaded with enzymes, minerals and antioxidants, and are also very alkalizing, thus balancing your body's acidity content. According to nutritionist Kinita Kadakia Patel, green juices are the best way to include the daily quota of fibre and vitamins in your diet, "Personally, a big bowl of salad converted into a drink is much more convenient and easy to consume," she says.

What are the greens I should drink?

Mix up and play around with combinations of kale, spinach, mint leaves, celery and coriander. Kadakia also suggests blending different types of gourds—bitter, bottle, snake etc.

What should I pair my greens with?

Greens usually have good iron content. Kadakia suggests pairing it with some form of Vitamin C—a squeeze of lemon, amla or a dash of orange juice—this should help in absorbing the iron better.

What about adding fruits?

Don't turn your green juice into a fruit juice. Two to three greens with half a fruit should be enough—green apple, orange or pomegranate are among Kadakia's picks.

How often should I drink it?

Once a day, every day, for the rest of your life!
