Hair trend to defy humidity: The root lift

There is a certain hairstyle spotted on the Spring '15 runways of designers such as Versace and Hermes that is inadvertently meant for Indian weather: a humidity defying look – the root lift.

Whether it's the rains that are weighing down your tresses or the constant summer heat keeping it flat and frizzy all the same, this look—with the help of a few styling products—will fix it all.

The root lift trend makes your hair high and voluminous from the roots, and lets it cascade around your face in a bouncy flow. Celebrity hairstylist Rod Anker tells you how to get this look to add a bit of life to your mane.

1. Blast: Start by blast drying your hair using a TIGI's sea salt spray, aiming it at the root area. Make sure not to overdo it—four pumps are sufficient. Sea salt gives the hair grit and texture.

2. Blow: Blow dry adding only a slight curve from the roots (depending on the length and the bounce you desire). Do not over style it.

3. Comb: Once you're done, go through the root area and lightly backcomb it, carefully taking each section. Do not comb the ends out.

4. Powder: Sprinkle a very small amount of Schwarzkopf Dust It Mattifying Powder on the roots throughout the head, with your head upside down. The dust absorbs excess moisture, giving the hair a matt look, adding volume.

5. Flip: Flip your head upright and gently move your hair into place using your fingers. Make sure not to run your fingers through your tresses as it can make it flat.
