The Bengaluru-based husband-wife duo is dedicated to bringing back old-school opulence with a modern twist. Shweta Gupta, the designer, tells us what sets apart their label.
INSPIRATION:
"I have always been inspired by art and history—bringing back traditional design in a modern environment. My style is all about vintage."
ON MY MOOD BOARD:
"I'm fascinated by the ancient jewellery that adorned maharanis, empresses and courtesans. Reviving that elegance and style in a modern and contemporary fashion is the starting point."
USP:
"We design all our pieces in-house. We work with precious stones and, as much as possible, in their raw, original form, and design around them to get something that is both vintage and modern. Many of our pieces are also reversible."
SIGNATURE STYLE:
"We use old stones, mostly polki, precious stones like sapphires, rubies and navratanas, and stones carved into idols of Ganesha or Krishna and other designs. Drawing from our heritage and tradition, we have piece inspired by peacocks, the moon and other Indian symbols."
ICONIC PIECE:
"The saat-lada, the quintessential seven-strand necklace that formed a part of Hyderabad's Nizam jewellery—seven strands of basra pearls with polki and ruby charms hanging."
REVIVING A CLASSIC:
"I would love to bring back the technique of partaj. Deep engraving in gold, it’s the finest work in jadau. It's expensive, as there is more wastage."
LUST-WORTHY JEWELLERY BOX:
"Elizabeth Taylor's, and Maharani Gayatri Devi for her pearls."
BRIDAL BUYS:
"The Chand Navratna necklace. Inspired by the solar system and with adjustable lengths, this is a favourite. Then there's the 'Flowing Peacock' necklace—a distinctive piece with its design and pearls."
