Gauri Khan is the new ambassador for Mahesh Notandass

Gauri Khan wears many hats—mother, interior and fashion designer and now ambassador for Mahesh Notandass' fine jewellery line. Vogue catches up with her about her love for all things that sparkle.

What are some of your treasured possessions?

My most treasured possession is my mother’s vintage gold cuff. It's very close to my heart, being a family heirloom that belonged to my grandmother.

What do you look for when buying a piece of jewellery?

Being a designer myself, I automatically focus on the intricacy of the craftsmanship. A fabulous piece of jewellery should be one that is long-lasting and not something that is just trending.

What is your favourite gemstone?

Pink diamonds have always been my favourite. Their rareness adds to the allure. And of course, diamonds are a lady's best friend.

What are your pointers for someone who is planning to gift jewellery to a loved one?

I feel gifts are something very personal, and an embodiment of our emotions. However it largely depends on the relationship—for a spouse, a diamond ring represents an everlasting bond, likewise for a parent, a gold necklace and earrings can represent their abundant blessings and unconditional love. Also, it's necessary to buy jewellery that is versatile.

What's your pick from the latest collection of jewellery at Mahesh Notandass?

Mahesh Notandass has an amazing collection. It’s next to impossible for me to pick only one. My favourites include the diamond bracelet, it is classy and elegant. Their uncut diamond and stone chandbalis are a perfect fusion of traditional and contemporary style.
