Exclusive: 5 questions with Alice Temperley

Vogue India

Over the years, Alice Temperley has become synonymous with cool British style. Worn by the likes of Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Poppy Delevingne, her clothes are elegant, flowy and free-spirited.

Vogue gets a private sneak into her Spring/Summer 2016 Temperley London collection, an ode to women worldwide with youthful and louche attitudes. The collection features daywear lightweight coats, elegant shirt dresses and a wide selection of easy separates that cater to all silhouettes.

We catch up with the designer before she jets off to Upstate New York.

What's your favourite look from this Spring/Summer 2016 collection and why?

The white Nomi lace jumpsuit. I love the neckline, the pockets, the high waist and the wide leg trouser. Very flattering on several body shapes and super elegant especially when worn with flats.

Where is the Temperley woman heading to on holiday this season and what essentials is she taking with her?

Anywhere that wakes up her curiosity—South France, Ibiza and Greece. I love the Mediterranean in the summer. She will be wearing soft easy shirtdresses, light laser cut or cotton separates, loose wide-legged culottes and effortless eveningwear and tailoring with flats.

Are flats the new high heels for you this season?

I live in flats and have always loved men's brogues. The Temperley woman can be seen wearing beautiful, floor-length dresses with flats, or amazing three-piece suits with trainers. It's chic, cool, effortless—and most importantly, looks relaxed.

What can we find in your beach bag?

A selection of Temperley London kaftans; Moroccanoil glimmer shine; Liz Earle Botanical after sun gel; my iPhone, headphones—and my book of the moment.

What do you do to cool off?

I am an early riser and always start my day with a cup of hot water with lemon and ginger. I try to ride my bike everywhere and love going on walks in the Somerset countryside with my family or riding horses—any outside activities that are quiet, remote and around beautiful nature.
