It's a mammoth task to get your hair to behave during the monsoon months. With the humidity way up high, you're lucky if your hair doesn't turn into a frizzball by noon. To win this battle, Vogue suggests 10 miracle hair serums to keep your tresses silky smooth all day, everyday.
What are they?
Lightweight and pocket-sized, serums are great to tame stray strands and smooth down hair cuticles, particularly for dry, coarse, damaged or frizzy hair. They fortify strands against damage caused by heat-styling products like flat irons and tame humidity-induced frizz.
What do they do?
The silicone in these products coats the surface of the hair (unlike hair oils that penetrate the hair cuticles) and acts as a barrier against external factors like heat, moisture and dust. It also makes hair look shiny, glossy and gives it a healthy bounce.
How do you pick one?
If you have thin, flyaway-prone hair, skip serums that are labelled moisturising or conditioning as they weigh down hair leaving it limp and flat. Instead, choose lightweight formulas. For thick, wavy hair, opt for serums that are intensely hydrating, particularly ones that contain argan, coconut and amla extracts.
How big a dollop is too big?
If you have fine hair, use no more than one or two pumps or you'll be stuck (literally) with greasy tresses. For medium-thick to thick hair, which can handle more—use a pea-sized amount. Always apply serum to your damp or towel-dried hair.
