7 Pre-Fall trends to try

Adam Lippes

Pre-Fall and Resort are two seasons where achieving trend goals is more viable than any other. Assuredly, they are trends that will be tweaked for the following season, keeping style investments alive just that little while longer.

Looking for ways to upgrade your wardrobe? Here are seven trends from the Pre-Fall 2015 international runways that you can try now:

Minimal luxe

Pick a basic separate, like a sweater or a camisole in cashmere, and pair it with trousers or midi skirts. The key to working the trend is to pick simple silhouttes in fine fabrics. You can also experiment with colour blocking.

Tailoring

This is one trend that instantly elevates your look. Mix separates like trench coats and trousers in suiting fabrics with simple basics. Our recommendation: Invest in a constructed jumpsuit or a pantsuit for a strong work look. For an evening out, add a sweater to your pencil skirt. Balance the hard lines in your outfit with make-up in blush tones.

Mashup

Think of it as the older cousin of the colour block. Textures, prints, jarring colours—anything that doesn't (usually) sit well together can be incorporated in one ensemble. The secret behind getting the look right is to not look right. Carry it with confidence; afterall, you planned it all along.

Fringing

We are not talking Coachella here girls, we are talking fringing as a graceful extension of your being. Artfully placed around your outfit, fringing adds a dancer's gait to your everyday movements. Step out in one of these, there won't be a doubt in anyone's mind that you deserve a camera unit following your every move.

Lace

Lace may have become a permanent feature on the runway, but that doesn't mean you can’t wear it differently from the first time you sported the trend. Slip into a pair of sneakers for a brunch date or throw on an oversized coat for a day of shopping. Yes, lace can imply whimsy.

Modified military

This season, we are charging along as peace warriors. Sport khaki green with everyday pieces, add a pair of  boots, and you are good to go.

Evening standard

Gone are the days of embellished frothy concoctions and second-skin dresses. The new awakening of evening wear involves clean lines and slimming down the outfit layers. Brocade tops, satin slip dresses and wrapped maxis are all welcome.
