Marc Jacobs announced on Instagram that Cher is to be the new face of the label's Fall/Winter 2015 campaign, shot by David Sims. Yet another design house that's merely adding a musician to their roster? We don't think so.
Marc Jacobs' last show for Louis Vuitton in 2013 was a salute to showgirls. The designer, in his career spanning over two decades, has more often than once made references to women who were pivotal in his personal life: sweaters for his graduation collection at Parsons that were hand-knitted by his grandmother have now become a signature of his label, then there was the Spring 2011 show, in which the models stepped out in hair bearing a striking resemblance to Vogue's creative director, Grace Coddington (a close friend of the designer), and now onto Cher, who the he clearly draws inspiration from.
The '60s singer, known for her on-screen charisma, daring choices in fashion and striking cheekbones practically oozes confidence, insouciance and a relaxed grown-up sense of otherworldliness that Jacobs is so drawn to.
The two, together at this year's Met Gala, wasn't just a sign of friendship, but also one of their creative collaboration. A match made in fashion heaven if we ever saw one.
