Culture fix: Your guide to the Vogue weekend

Every week, Vogue gives you a cultural calendar comprising the best of music, art, photography, food and fashion that may just be your respite from the heat—and the death of culture, as we know it.

A new art gallery in Mumbai, Vir Das' performance in Delhi and Saibal Das' photo-exhibition in Bangalore are among the highlights from this week.

If you're in Delhi…

Go on a laugh riot
The young comedian of 'History of India' fame returns with a playback to what may or may not be anecdotes from his life, in his latest show 'Unbelievablish'. Book your seats to hear hilariously "true words from the mouth of a liar".

Walk through colonial time
If you're an ardent fan of architecture and you're in the capital for a day—let's just say that it's a great combination. Get a chance to travel back in time to the period of the British Raj and walk among the architectural relics and ruins including Quli Khan's tomb and Rajon ki Baoli—as you join tourists and enthusiasts on the Mehrauli heritage walk.

Calling all modernists
Think a cultural conglomeration of theatre, performance art and installation. Vivan Sundaram's 'Sculptural installations from 409 Ramkinkars' spans culture across centuries: juxtaposing avante garde figures like Pablo Picasso and Santiniketan artist Ramkinkar Baij, whom he pays homage to. This exhibit promises to be a visual treat for all you modernists out there.

Take a pilgrimage through photographs
Join Saibal Das as he takes you on his photographic journey, 'Before the Birth of Time,' stopping to capture the "most significant yet shrouded pilgrimage sites" in India. Read Vogue's coverage here.

If you're in Mumbai…

Discover the object of their art
'The Doorstep,' a group show curated by artist and academic Gyan Panchal features the works of five artists—Prabhakar Barwe, Hemali Bhuta, Jason Dodge and Shreyas Karle and Panchal himself—who share a desire to interrogate the objects they encounter in an attempt to understand how they are perceived and experienced by the world. 
When: Ongoing until June 13.

Take a cupcake baking class
Start your weekend on a sweet note. Pooja Dhingra of Le15 is conducting a cupcake baking class at Studio Fifteen—just in time for the Sunday brunch you were contemplating hosting. From vanilla to chocolate and Oreo, this lady sure does dessert right.

Visit the newest art gallery in town
Mumbai's newest art space, gallery Odyssey opens with a solo show by renowned Italian sculptor Lorenzo Quinn entitled 'In the hands of Lorenzo Quinn'. Join him on his artistic journey: "I make art for myself and for people who wish to come along for a ride through my dreams," says Quinn.

Listen to soulful sounds
Fans of Karsh Kale, we have news for you. The Indian American musician, who's big in the Asian Underground genre will perform live with his band Karsh Kale Collective SoundSystem—mixing music from Indian classical and folk, to pop and rock—this Friday.

If you're in Goa...

Experience a travelling art exhibition 
'Tales From Darkness' is an art exhibition travelling the globe from Germany to Goa, conceptualised by Berlin-based artist Marcus Sedlinger and on showcase at Sunaparanta, Goa Centre for the Arts. Watch how various artists interpret the subject of Alptraum—nightmare. Read Vogue's coverage here.

If you're in Kolkata...

See Srinagar in Soi's art
Artist Praneet Soi brings the Kashmir valley to Kolkata's Experimenter gallery. If you haven't had the chance to see it yet, his exhibition, 'Srinagar,' featuring papier-mâché collaborations with local craftsmen should definitely be on your artistic agenda this week.
