Exclusive: Bungalow 8 has a new address

Bungalow 8

Bungalow 8 is a household name in Colaba. Wander along the pasta lanes and you will find the concept lifestyle and fashion store neatly tucked two floors up in the Grants building on Arthur Bunder Road. After the expiry of its seven year lease, the store has moved to the Wankhede stadium.

The Bungalow 8 journey actually started at the same space nearly a decade ago, but owing to renovations at Mumbai's beloved cricket ground, the store shifted base to Colaba. The unique location of the Colaba store facilitated a strong aesthetic that resonated with the merchandise at Bungalow 8. While we bid farewell to the iconic space, Vogue catches up with Maithili Ahluwalia owner, CEO and creative director of the store on moving day.

What is the best thing about the new location?

I think that the best thing about it is the uniqueness. And as far as I know, there is no other store in the world that is under a cricket stadium.

How is the new space different (or not) from the Colaba Bungalow 8 store?

Bungalow 8 spaces have always responded to the environment that they have found themselves in. The Colaba store was a heritage story, here it is an engagement with a cricket stadium.

What was on your mind while designing the new store?

Two things, though not consciously: first being that the space, like all our other spaces, should feel intimate and like a home and second, we wanted the structure to be a blank enough slate so that every season we could build a new story with it.

What are the new labels to look out for this summer?

All the old ones with a new twist. We are not about changing with trends.

What are your 3 must-haves from the store?

A vintage mirrored cupboard, our new range of handmade ceramics and a graphic navy & white jumpsuit—just perfect for the summer.

Bungalow 8 is now open at Wankhede Stadium, E&F Block, Sachin Tendulkar stand (9&10), Vinoo Mankad Gate D, Churchgate, Mumbai 400020.
