7 lessons to learn from celebrities who love pantsuits

The pantsuit's modern-day rendition is a girl boss's fail-safe way to make a statement, and not just in the boardroom. Don't believe us? Just ask our favourite celebrities. Style icons the world over are having a torrid love affair with this two-piece wardrobe wonder; giving the power suit a unique, inimitable spin every time they sport it.

Vogue decodes their looks to bring seven all-important lessons for ladies looking to give this trend a go beyond the office cabin.

Lesson #1: Colour and prints are always a good idea

Not one to play it safe? Splash your suit with a riot of colour for seriously chic results. Jacqueline Fernandez goes girly in pink, Anushka Sharma makes a strong case for pastels and Gigi Hadid is all for print power.

Lesson #2: Forgo black in favour of white

If you just cannot get yourself to wear another ubiquitous black suit, spin the colour wheel in favour of white like Frieda Pinto or Kate Hudson. This pristine suit is sophisticated, cool and so Bianca Jagger.

Lesson #3: Go sporty

Sports luxe is all the rage, so why leave your pantsuits out? Deepika Padukone sure did not. A pinstriped suit with white sneakers promises to put the ball in your (sartorial) court.

Lesson #4: Say yes to cape blazers

If you’re bored of the same ol' pant suits, take your look a notch higher by giving your nod to cape blazers just like Olivia Wilde. Wear the suit with your favourite band tee for some fun.

Lesson #5: Give it a sexy spin

Don’t buy into the myth that pantsuits are all business and no sex appeal. Take a cue from Rachel McAdams and Priyanka Chopra and skip the shirt under your blazer. You could also sport a top with a plunging neckline à la January Jones.

Lesson #6: Opt for cropped trousers

Those looking for monsoon-friendly pantsuits will find their sartorial soulmate in super-model certified—Lisa Haydon, to be precise—cropped trousers. Comfort and convenience aside, the altered hemline will also give the look a casual touch.

Lesson #7: Play it like the boys

You're borrowing from your man's closet, you might as well go the whole hog. Learn a lesson from Emma Watson and wear it with a crisp white shirt, or Kareena Kapoor Khan and own that three-piece suit (always teamed with a slick hairdo) like a boss, to show them who really wears the pants around here.
