10 skincare commandments for the Vogue Bride

Errikos Andreou/ Vogue India

While that natural happy glow is evident on a bride's face, oftentimes, it's the stress that can really take a toll on her skin. By just making an extra effort and tweak in her skincare regime, the bride can retain her radiance. Dermatologist Dr Harshna Bijlani, who will be conducting a special masterclass for brides-to-be at the Vogue Wedding Show 2015, shares her ten important commandments to be followed for every woman tying the knot.

1. Make a plan

Just how you would plan a year in advance for your wedding, you need to visit your skin specialist to help make a customized treatment homecare plan as early as possible.

2. Protection from the sun

Sunrays not only cause pigments but also age you—and you don't want to have uneven shades on your face and body. Carry an umbrella or scarf too, since with most protection, it is never a 100 per cent protection. Use a sunscreen with minimum 30 SPF broad spectrum at least 20 minutes before going out, and every two to three hours.

3. Eat healthy

Recent studies show that dairy products and sweets can cause acne. Include plenty of green vegetables and fruits without overcooking in your diet.

4. Drink water. Lots of it

Six to eight glasses of water through the day is essential. If possible, try and drink natural spring water.

5. Antioxidant intake

It's important to cleanse your system from inside out. Beta Carotene, vitamin C and E help you do that. Antioxidants can be in the natural form, in vitamin pills such as the new super antioxidant "Crystal Tomato" or even serums that can be applied directly to the skin.

6. Exfoliate

Scrubs, fruit peels and gentle exfoliation regularly will help slough off dead skin, giving the bride a smooth texture.

7. Sleep well

Get enough beauty sleep—eight hours minimum.

8. Hydrate your skin

Moisturise in the morning and at night with cream or water-based formulas, depending on your skin type. Consult your dermatologist to know which ones to use.

9. Don't touch that acne

Picking on your zits and acne can cause permanent scars and also cause it to spread.

10. Don't experiment

If there's a good time not to experiment and take chances with new products, it's during your wedding! Close to the big day, stick to the tried-and-tested formulas and techniques.
