Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her big red carpet entry at the 68th edition of The Cannes Film Festival in a teal Elie Saab, and matched it with equal parts bold make-up: metallic eyes and deep, dark burgundy lips.
That intense pucker may not be your go-to lipstick option—what with it bleeding out, or making you look washed out and goth at times—but you can pull it off, if you follow these simple steps.
According to Lancôme India's national make-up artist, Stafford Braganza, sticking with deep, rich colours like warm brick is your best bet, "Super bright with cool pink undertones can seem too harsh. Golden undertones work well with medium skin."
Braganza's Cheat Sheet
1. Your fingertip is your best tool for a stain. Lightly press your bordeaux lipstick on the edges of your mouth to soften this dark look.
2. Use a small lip brush for a more rounded finish, and a pointed brush for a polished look.
3. Finish your lipstick application by applying concealer around the mouth for a clean finish.
4. A simple trick to find the right shade for your skin tone is to match the intensities: darker shades for darker tones and lighter tones for fairer skin.
