Thalía Sodi Launches Macy’s Collection

MACY’S INJECTS LATIN FLAVOR: Macy’s Herald Square turned Mexican fiesta Wednesday night when a vivacious Thalía Sodi, the Latina soap star and songstress, launched her namesake collection. It’s exclusive to the store and created in conjunction with the Macy’s Merchandising Group. The evening moved fast, with Macy’s Terry J. Lundgren introducing Thalía and executives showering praise on the collection as the company’s biggest private brand launch ever, covering a range of categories, at a reception inside the Stella restaurant. Then came the fashion show, filled with thigh-high sexy dresses, bright florals and hot animal prints, held in a section of the furniture floor walled off into a makeshift theater and runway, where Lundgren displayed some spontaneous salsa technique. The evening ended with Sodi signing autographs for shoppers. “Are you prepared for a Latina invasion yet?” Lundgren told his team. “Sales are off the chart.” “The target audience is Latina, but we are selling in all parts of the country,” said Jeff Gennette, Macy’s president, noting the collection’s mainstream appeal beyond Hispanics and distribution to 300 stores right off the bat. “It seems like a long pregnancy. Today we have a girl,” Sodi exclaimed. “Tequila all around.”
