MATCH POINT: Prince is serving up a new collection of performance tennis apparel for men, women and children. The line, which launches this month, will be sold exclusively at Sports Authority’s 446 locations in the U.S. and sportsauthority.com. Tennis has never been a trendy sport. The game, between spring 2008 and spring 2014, has steadily held the interest of between 11.5 million and 12.5 million players a year. “We saw some white space in the marketplace,” said Stephen Binkley, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer of Sports Authority. “We don’t think anybody is out there doing a great job as it relates to tennis apparel. With the powerhouse of Prince and the legacy surrounding the name, we thought we could develop something. We’re bringing to life a category that we don’t think a lot of people are doing a great job with.” The Prince collection offers head-to toe performance tennis apparel with features such as UV protection, comfort stretch and moisture-managing fabrics. Women’s apparel such as polos, crew neck shirts, fitted tanks and pleated skorts comes in vibrant colors with floral prints and geometric and abstract patterns.
