Trademark finds inspiration in India

Trademark

New York-based sportswear label Trademark, founded in 2013 and funded by Pookie and Louisa Burch, made India its muse this spring.

The brand, reputed for a design notion that is minimalistic and utilitarian, makes the uniform their starting-point, and often reverts to the '60s and '70s American art for inspiration. Their collections are affordable and comprise contemporary silhouettes for both, men and women, and also include shoes, handbags and accessories.

Their Spring 2015 collection, sold exclusively on matchesfashion.com, is inspired by India as seen through the lens of Jean Renoir's 1951 film, The River

Apparel for women includes tunic suiting, poplin shirting for dresses, use of plaids and collar-less jackets, whereas, their menswear collection has an assortment of crew neck sweatshirts with city-names (Delhi, Jaipur and Udaipur) logo detailing—all paying homage to the country and its traditional wear.

Accessories include paint-cracked leather sandals with hand tie-knot detailing inspired by Chupplee East Indian sandals, Trademark 'IDchain' loafers that give a late '60s boyish feel, and suede 'fold-back' slippers that reference traditional Eastern footwear and the furniture of Le Corbusier. Further, structured square leather bags with thick straps or chain detailing that riff off Japanese men’s clutches and woven leather bucket bags that are nostalgic of iconic vintage travel pieces of yesterday.
