First look: Eva Green for L'Oréal Professionnel

L'Oréal Professionnel

Eva Green has been signed by L'Oréal Professionnel as the brand's new international spokesperson. The actress - perhaps best known for her role as Bond Girl Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale - will be the face of the brand's 2015 launches.

"As an actress, hair is so important. You need a very good relationship with your hairdresser and together we create the hairstyles. My hairdresser uses, of course, the leader of hair products, L'Oréal Professionnel. I am very glad to be on board on this new adventure," Green said in a statement.

This year, Green - who appeared on the cover of Vogue's January 2008 issue - will begin shooting Tim Burton's new film, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, as well as reprising her role in American television series Penny Dreadful, in which she stars alongside Josh Hartnett.

"We have chosen Eva Green because she perfectly embodies our values: She is extremely sensitive to fashion trends and counts on the expertise of hairdressers, both on and off screen," said Anne-Laure Lecerf, International Managing Director at L'Oréal Professionnel. "Her beauty, modernity and personal appeal captivate. I am convinced that Eva Green will be an amazing advantage for L'Oréal Professionnel."

Green will be the new face for the strategic 2015 launches, including Wet Domination by Tecni.ART; this styling range will be available in L'Oréal Professionnel hair salons from from June 2015.

Style evolution: Jacqueline Fernandez

Vogue

Smiling, skipping, pouting… Vogue India's July 2015 cover star has been photographed doing it all. And more often than not, Jacqueline Fernandez' sartorial choices clearly reflect her contagious, bubbly energy.

Fernandez' first years in Bollywood saw her in a staple of embellished dresses, sari hybrids and fitted jeans. Some of her most striking looks from 2011 and 2012: an ombré lace Gaurav Gupta sari, a mustard yellow Anand Kabra kurta and a black sequinned Amit GT gown at GQ's Men of the Year party.

Come 2013 Fernandez began taking to her playful side—going casual in wedge sneakers and drop crotch pants. For evenings on the red carpet, a slinky silhouette never failed the star. (You can't possibly forget that shocking pink Pernia Qureshi gown or her heart-print Lanvin). This was also a year of trying out new labels. Fans saw Fernandez in everything from feminine Shehlaa by Shehla Khan kurtas to a black and gold Nikhil Thampi gown—and even a regal Sabyasachi couture ensemble.

In the past year Fernandez' choices have only gotten bigger and brighter. 2014's best looks include a crimson Amit Aggarwal gown with multicoloured metallic details and a gold and ivory Anand Kabra look (a designer she keeps coming back to). As for 2015, the Anamika Khanna lehenga she wore to the IIFA Awards was among her best looks so far. Elegant and sexy, it was a combination you couldn't go wrong with.

Ever wondered what happens behind the lens at a Vogue India photo shoot? We take you on a day out with our July 2015 cover star Jacqueline Fernandez as we trail her time spent with the Vogue team, doing what she does best: look effortlessly glamorous.

High on energy

Vogue's fashion director Anaita Adajania Shroff  has an instant response when asked about Fernandez' on-duty persona: "Super energetic, super punctual and super friendly! She's a charmer, never needs rest and keeps herself satiated." What did she eat on shoot day? Only a comforting Asian platter of steamed momos and fried rice.

The bottle lady

The reason behind her naturally smooth and radiant skin is probably the fact that she is on a constant liquid regime—coconut water, regular water, and green tea were her staples during the shoot.

Off-duty style

It may be a 5am call time, but this cover star keeps her sartorial choices seamlessly chic—crop top over a denim pencil skirt. The Vogue fashion team describes her style as effortless and super street-y.

Shoot buddies

Trust Fernandez to make work fun! She shared a great rapport with co-stars Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar and Siddharth Malhotra—her friendly vibes rippled through the shoot set.

Swag playlist

Totally up-to-date with the current pop culture, you will find all the latest upbeat, hip hop tracks on Fernandez' playlist. Her current favourite artists: Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Calvin Harris and Rihanna.

5 hidden signs of stress

Abhay Singh/Vogue

Stress. We can't escape it, we can't embrace it and contrary to popular memes that coast the Web or sound-effect laden TV serial scenes, the average woman facing above average stress situations isn't on a perpetual rager.

Think about it—you may have felt like tearing your hair out but you stopped short from actually ripping out the clumps. You fantasized about blowing your idiot colleague's head off with a 12-gauge shotgun but settled for a glacial glare.

Let's face it, as women we internalise stress…A LOT. And without a safety valve outlet it builds over time, till the cortisol starts to wreck havoc in our bodies. By the time the chest pains and perpetual runny tummy begin, the stress has taken hold. But before you get there, our bodies send subtle signs, which we tend to miss.

If you're regularly feeling the ones below, you may want to make time to relax.

1. You've got recurring weird dreams.

Not to be confused with the occasional nightmare, Rosalind Cartwright, PhD from Rush University Medical Center says that dreams typically become more positive in deep, restful sleep so you tend to wake up in a good mood. When you’re stressed, your sleep is fitful with constant breaks, which causes less pleasant or even downright unpleasant dream imagery.

2. You've got period pain from hell.

Or during your PMS phase you’re extremely irritable and a tad homicidal. While it's normal to feel bloated and grumpy, extreme reactions and pain are usually because cortisol disrupts your hormonal balance. The good news is (though you might not want to hear it) that exercise can soothe both your temper and your cramps.

3. Your teeth hurt.

You wake up in the morning feeling like you got punched in the face—tingling teeth, a sore jaw, a stiff neck or permutation combinations of all three. When you’re stressed you involuntarily grind your teeth at night which gives rise to the sucker-punch morning mouth.

4. You can time your Sunday 7pm headaches like clockwork.

You're done with a really tough week and are looking forward to doing absolutely nothing on the weekend. Out of the blue you get a blinder of a headache that just wont go away, no matter what. Here's the bad news— a sudden, sharp drop in stress levels (or a spike) can trigger a migraine says Dr Todd Schwedt, director of the Washington University Headache Center. It's also the cause for Sunday evening blues.

5. You're forgetting stuff…a lot.

You're too young to have early-onset Alzheimer's, but you still can't for the life of you remember where you put your damn keys! Frequently forgetting simple things like where you put something or failing to return calls or not remembering appointments could be brought on by prolonged stress which diminishes your memory and can shrink the hippocampus—a key memory center in the brain.

What to do:

See your doctor: It's essential to take a stress test before the damage gets worse

Unplug: Take a day off and don't answer emails or check social media

Call your mom: Renewing close bonds brings down cortisol levels

Hug: A pillow, your dog or your significant other

Meditate: Calming your mental chaos helps immensely

Mary Katrantzou x adidas Originals 2.0

adidas Originals

The obessesion with designer and sports brand collaborations doesn’t seem to die down—and why should it, when it looks as good as Mary Katrantzou's ongoing one with Adidas? A mix of sportwear and sports- inspired clothing and accessories, the line of garments and footwear is done in signature Katrantzou prints. "The shoes this season are more closely connected to their apparel counterparts, offering the bolder of our customers the chance to wear a print from head to toe," says Katrantzou.

The London-based designer hails from a print-making background from Central Saint Martins and does an eclectic take on her medium each season. Rich with colour—without being overbearing—the collection references sportsmen and sporting accessories from the '80s and also includes graphics of boxing gloves and tennis rackets.

Unlike her previous collaboration with Adidas, the Spring/Summer 2015 line is done in brighter colours, has a more fun approach to the sports theme and is bound to stir some serious envy on the gym floor.

Vogue recommends: The colour blocked sneakers with synchronised swimmer print.

Adidas Originals by Mary Katrantzou Spring/Summer 2015 is available online now.

The naked truth about haute couture

The sexes were different. The seasons were separated. But the response was the same: WOW!

And that was before the Givenchy men's show for spring 2016, incorporating 10 looks from winter 2015 haute couture, had even started.

The red-hot front-row line-up included elegant Kris Wu, the impeccably dressed young Chinese film star; Courtney Love, rock queen of dishevelled glamour; and Kris Jenner, mother of those Kardashians, dressed head to toe In black in a parody of Parisian glamour. She was there to watch her daughter Kendall, who walked for designer Riccardo Tisci.

The T-shirts with Jesus Christ printed on their square-cut fronts and the boxy sportswear seemed a familiar take on the look that Tisci has built for Givenchy menswear. I asked him about it backstage.

"You know, I have this religious thing," Riccardo said, although he included a sharply tailored coat that was sleek and stylish.

And showing the barely-there couture dresses?

"I want them to be seen on the runway – although I will have them to look close-up during couture."

Mariacarla Boscono, Tisci's long-time muse, leads the finale.

In fact this show, with its splattering of metallic "cages" as part of the sinuous runway, could be seen close up. And that revealed the intricate work of featherlight embroidery, silken pink tassels, a sea foam of blue fabric worn with dark hose. And a fluffy yellow dress of infinite detail in its creation, worn by Mariacarla Boscono, Tisci's long-time muse.

Since there was a great deal of skin and minimal underwear, especially when Naomi Campbell appeared in a silver striped jacket and nothing else at the top, the sensuality of the collection was overwhelming – as well as its fine craftsmanship.

But the naked truth about haute couture is that any client could order a silk lining to the lacy dresses. While in their cut-away form they will win applause and attention on the red carpet.
Givenchy's line-up of A-list celebrities need look no further for an attention-seeking – and beautifully constructed – outfit.

As for stealing a march on the official haute-couture week – that is another smart move. With spring collections challenging couture for attention – and with the Paris week truncated by Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana showing in Italy, Givenchy made a smart pitch for early attention.

And as if that were not enough to prove that fashion shows are now just pawns to move across fashion's game of chess, the next Givenchy ready-to-wear show will be in New York, not Paris in September – the better to attract attention to a new store opening in Manhattan.
