Replay Brand Opens Restaurant

MILAN — Italian denim brand Replay inaugurated “The Stage,” its first restaurant-cum-bar located above the brand’s “Multiexperience Store,” which opened in Milan last September. Facing Piazza Gae Aulenti, in the heart of the city’s Porta Nuova district, which is quickly becoming the new hot fashion destination in town, the restaurant and the store have been conceived by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors. The studio is behind a range of New York locations, such as the Viceroy Hotel and the Top of the Standard in the Meatpacking District. Matteo Sinigaglia, chief executive officer of Fashion Box, which controls the Replay brand, said the company turned to New York and its international vibe, aiming to re-create a set through the decor. “Cinema is one of the most powerful vehicles to communicate emotions, so we looked for people working in this sector to give shape to a new movie set,” he said of the decor, which is designed to resemble a luxurious boat. Speaking of the location, Sinigaglia said it was “not that obvious for Replay. Piazza Gae Aulenti represents the maximum expression of contemporary architecture, while our brand is very rooted in its heritage.” With walls covered in polished wood, the restaurant has a

Theory+ Plans to Open First Stores

NEW YORK — Theory+, Theory’s activewear collection, plans to open its first two dedicated stores that will exclusively carry the line. A 1,956-square-foot location will open in the lower level of the Theory store at Garosu-gil, in the trendy Gangnam area of Seoul, on April 4. A 2,100-square-foot Theory+ store will open in Los Angeles, at 8382 Melrose Avenue, on April 10. The Seoul flagship has a lot of natural light created by floor-to-ceiling windows, which look out onto a small garden. The Los Angeles location is a corner spot in the center of West Hollywood. Theory+ combines the modern aspects of the Theory brand with the technical performance of active clothing. The women’s line includes power stretch crewneck tops, pants, jackets, jumpsuits, bras and hoodies. The men’s line has track pants, leggings, shorts, tops and jackets. “It’s an interesting angle on the whole active thing,” said Andrew Rosen, chief executive officer of Theory. “We’re developing it underground.” He said he wants to give it some exposure to “see if we’re ready for prime time.” Theory+ launched in August. It is sold on Net-a-porter, in Intermix stores, specialty stores throughout the U.S., Equinox boutiques, as well as in Theory retail stores and on the company’s

Dsquared2 makes a splash in Mayfair

LONDON — Dsquared2 has opened the biggest store in its history, and its first in the U.K., a brand universe on the corner of Savile Row and Conduit Street in London’s Mayfair. The 8,612-square-foot store spans three floors and is housed in a newly refurbished building formerly occupied by brands such as Voyage and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. The new-concept interiors are similar to those of the New York and Los Angeles units, and nod to the twin brother designers’ Canadian roots. There are black antler chandeliers and light fixtures, and black-and-white backlit woodland scenes in the changing rooms and on the stair landings. The ceilings are soaring, and the pale carpeting laid over black resin floors is meant to resemble a forest trail. There’s also a polished city slicker feel to the store, which brand owners Dean and Dan Caten designed together with the Milanese architectural firm Storageassociati. Velvet armchairs, brass fixtures, black marble surfaces, and the overall dark interiors give the space an urban edge. The ground floor carries the runway and formal men’s collections, while the casual, sneaker and denim lines are downstairs. Women’s wear is on the first floor. There is a capsule line of cocktail and evening gowns inspired by
