Trend to try now: Almost-bare

Indigital

Like clockwork, this time each year, we’re inundated with the monsoon—think frizzy/oily hair, yuck-and-muck feet and oozy, runny, hot-mess make-up. But when daring to bare isn't an option, try working the minimalist approach. Coral lip gloss, bronzer, sea-salt spray, and champagne eye shadow—all make for a gorgeous 'rain-face'.

As The Row's or Lanvin's Resort 2016 shows prove, there's a strong case to be made for sober make-up (a red lip, muted contour) especially in the forthcoming deluge dog-days. For one thing, it shows the virtues of picking your battles—the Lanvin girl's subdued face perfectly offsets her hothouse-colored apparel.

Wearing your usual makeup in this season is indifferently subversive, though perhaps what's really strange is that so many of us, regardless of age, regress to the shiny products of adolescence when the humidity rises. If you choose to make some concessions to the heat and humidity, let it be through lighter or more hydrating formulations.

How to do an anti-pancake face: La Roche-Posay's combination blemish treatment and BB cream, new in its Effaclar line, multitasks beautifully when layering products sounds odious. As a reprieve from high-impact glitter shadows, look to Tarte's all-matte Amazonian Clay eye shadow palette. A spate of new, perfectly subdued lipsticks (Dolce and Gabbana's first-ever Matte Lipstick, in all reds; Guerlain's KissKiss "shaping cream" lip colour) can take you through this season into fall; extend their wear for long rainy nights with Ciaté London’s Kiss Play Stay clear sealant.
